Some stuff from other MMOs I've played
Well, I used to be an AO addict. Played for a good 3 years, and while I did apprecaite all it had to offer, I like GW better. But maybe we could leak some of those features from AO into GW?
Player homes-
Apartments were "t3h b0mb" in AO, and maybe camps or shacks or something could be a nice addition to GW for players to customize, store more of their junk, equipt skills, customize weapons, chit-chat, ect ect...
Info box-
I'm kind of used to get everything on a fellow player from date of birth of thier charictor to wether they prefer chocolate or vanilla ice cream in a little info bar that I can bring up when I select them. Maybe a key can be bound to bring up info on the charictor when we select them? Info such as thier name, level, class, skills, HP, MP, XP, ect... Just so you know who you're playing.
Transportation-
I saw this mentioned in this thread earlier, and when I was playing, I thought "Man, it would be cool to throw a saddle on that Moa bird..." 'nuff said.
Marrage-
In Ragnarok, players could wed to get differnt bonuses. I'm not sure exactly what those bonuses were since I couldn't convice my girlfriend to play and I refused to marry anybody else, but maybe we could have some sort of love connection? :3
Social Clothing-
Maybe sometimes you wanna loose that armor and throw on a nice toga and go Animal House? Social cloths played a big part in AO, and for good reason- we had...
Party Areas-
HUGE social places such as Reet's Retreat or The Rompah Bar (booty bar. Heh). Maybe we could have some sort of thing set up like that? A fair or festivle for players to meet up, chit chat, party, and organize events?
Further Weapon Customizeation-
I think it would be a great idea to add more to your weapon via salvagable items. Maybe you can reenforce your firey dragon sword with some steel ignots or add magical stats to it with salvaged focus items.
I think that's about it for now. These are pretty basic, but could make the game go far (in my opinion). Lemme know whatcha think ^.^

Seeing enemies MP is a no-no.
It'd destroy PvP IMO.
Seeing HP shouldn't really be in either IMO but whatever, as long as energy stays hidden.

Why does everyone have the irresistible impulse to make GW more like every other MMO on the market?

Um this is GW not neopets or real life.
Also use the search, you make me sick. All the nerds already suggested these ideas multiple times.

I generally don't like ideas ripped straight from other games for no reason, but thanks for making a genuine post, rather than saying "OMFGZ!! I SAW MOUNTS IN WOW THEREFORE GW MUST HAVE THEM TOO!!111one!11one"
I'm not trying to bash, but MCS is mostly correct. Most of these ideas have already been posted and shot down countless times before.

I do agree with the homes (I'm thinking of small shack-like homes.) It would be nice to be able to add personal houses (tied to account, and not character) outside of guild halls. These houses would be out-of-the-way, and provide absolutely no advantage during guild battles. They would just be there as a hang out spot. Also, the owners could buy decorations for their houses, which again provide no advantage in guild battles. I think this would actually be beneficial for the economy as it would provide a money sink for rich players.
I do not agree with extra storage space (perhaps a small, guild-wide storage for transfer of items within the guild located inside the guild hall). Extra storage space leads to hoarding, and all of that other crap associated with it. As for the weapons and Xunlai agent NPCs, these could be located in the guild hall as well.

A little information window (perhaps accessible by clicking on their icons in the friends list) would be nice.

Yes, it would be cool, but this definitely would not work in the game, at least not for the current professions. It would greatly unbalance the game due to creating a whole new field of tactics due to the extra speed. However, if, in an expansion, a special knight profession designed to use mounts (properly balanced, of course) was implemented, I would support it.

In Ragnarok Online, wedded couples had special skills. Both could teleport to each other at will (but there was a 20 second cast time and a huge energy cost), the husband could transfer some of his HP to his wife with a penalty, and the wife could transfer some of her MP to her husband, also with a penalty. There were no statistical benefits besides the skills. To marry, it cost 2.5 million zeny (roughly equivalent to 250 platinum.)
Yes, it does help role-playing, but it just doesn't fit Guild Wars. In Ragnarok Online, all of your characters' genders were determined by your real life gender when you registered your account. That way, most of the female characters actually were females in real life, and the marriages in general actually worked like they were supposed to. In Guild Wars, since choosing your sex is so free, there would be a huge overlap of same genders. So no, marriages would not work in Guild Wars.

You can "uprade" your weapons with modifications, such as sword pommels, hilts, bow strings, grips, axe hafts, etc. I do not agree with extra upgrading beyond that, however, as one of the key aspects of Guild Wars combat is that there are no "uber" weapons (crafting items are not very difficult to obtain, not even steel ingots, and players, especially those far in the game could simply "reinforce" their weapon hundreds of times, making it insanely powerful.)
As for the social clothing and party areas, I really have nothing to say.

I think it would add some depth to the RP side of the game, but as youve guessed mosed PvPers would be against it LOL. I personally wouldnt mind the things you are asking for once the game has its few wrinkles ironed out 1st.

I'm curious why do people seem so bound and determined to a)make everyone online game a clone of each other with a different skin and b)try to make GW into a mmorpg when its not really one? its something different so quit trying to make it into something its not

People bitching about other people making game suggestions should really stop browsing this forum. Or find a better way to state your disagreement with the suggestion. Either way just quit putting people down that are trying to offer ideas to improve the game.

All these people that keep wanting these ideas from other games go play those games if you like them so much.
Did it never occur to you that the Developers had already thought what would be good for GW and left out some of these options and ideas because they were pointless?
Updates to make the gaming more fun, such as fixes, more quests, making the map more open to run around in etc, I'm all up for that. But for marriage etc, leave it for RL.
This post has been done so much now it's actually getting very boring.

Ok here is my 2 cents worth.
Ahem.......
This game at first glance catches you by surprise, when you first play the game you expect to find the same cookie cutters game play style as in other MMORPG's, IE: UO, EQ, and WOW. But you don't. there are some major differences, like the lvl cap of 20 , the instanced game play, and the fact that only you character can wear the armor that you crafted....
At first this was like a breath of fresh air....... At first.
Now after playing through all of the BWE's and playing the full version when ever I get any free time IE: after work, I yern for the days of being able to move up past lvl 20 ( Hell the monsters you fight are upwards of lvl 25-30! why can't we?)... and being able to see the dmg totals in the character profile like in Diablo II, and other ROBUST RPG's where you can see the the increase in dmg everytime you increase the number of your str, or linked attribute points.....
Don't get me wrong I still think GW is a very good game , its just after really getting into the game the buzz has worn off.....I really hope that Arena Net makes some changes to the basics when they start to beta the expansions. you know to at least keep the old school RPG gamers still interested in their new game. I mean hell my guild still plays Diablo I, and Diablo II - LoD regularly, reason why its ***BECAUSE*** of the grind thats involved with making your kick ass character. Heck...Grinding lvls Good bad or indifferent keeps players playing to get their characters as godly as possible its the thrill of competetion you always have to be able to brag how much better your character is compared to your friends, whether it be a godly weapon or armor, or your stats are maxed and your dmg is through the roof. RPG gamers want people to see their characters and say "WOW I want to make my character as Godly as that Guys!"
Well thats my 2 Cents Worth.

Man.. AO were the days... too bad it's not as populated as before.. man, AO used to rock. I remember wondering aimlessy around the game world, then ending up right in the center of the enemy base somehow. I found a member of the other team, but he didn't kill me, lol.
Apparently money in that game is easy to get, because he gave me 100k then escorted me back to my home base.
Yep, AO were the days...
...What were we talking about?

Player Homes:
I like the idea of having a place for yourself -- but in a sense, since this is a guild-oriented game, the Guild Hall is just that: a private place for you and your guildmates. Rather than code an entirely separate player home, I think the devs should focus instead on:
a) Expanding personal storage vaults. We have what, 25 slots? It's good when you're just beginning, but once you start collecting materials & runes for yourself, as well as playing new characters, the space is limited.
b) More options in the guild hall -- as many have suggested, guild storage, the storage & merchant & trader NPCs in the guild hall, etc.
Info Box:
No thanks. I thought this would be cool before, too.. I played FFXI, and there was a /check command, to see a player's name, job, and equipment. Many find it sort of invasive & rude.
Transportation:
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this game was created for the gamer who didn't want to spend 10 extra minutes traveling from one city to the next by foot, bird, horse, whatever. We have map traveling to get to places in an instant. In FFXI, there was a boat that took you to islands -- you had to purchase a ticket, wait for the boat to arrive, then wait as the boat took you to the destination. I do admit, it was fun mingling around in a boat sometimes (and doing /fish when I had the chance) -- what was not fun, was missing the boat by about 5 seconds and watching it leave the dock, waiting another 7 minutes for the next boat to arrive. Also annoying was the fluctuating price of chocobos - I hated paying 500-1000 gil for a ride, when other days it only cost 50-100 gil.
Map traveling is enough in this game - it gets you to where you want to go with ease. I was a little bummed out by the quest in the jungle that takes you to Riverside (the NPC said I was going to ride a boat lol, but I was brought there instantly). So maybe, if transportation is part of a quest or mission, and if the ride is short (1-2 minutes), then okay.. maybe.. but, again, this is probably something the devs are going to overlook.
Marraige:
This has been covered in another thread. Generally, things are good as it is -- with in-game marraige being an optional thing done between players. Guild Wars has already had one "official" wedding in Tyria. Organize it yourself with your guild members - trade significant items, wear your fancy armor, have a Monk do the honors of joining your hands in marraige, and hold a /dance party in your reception (Guild) hall.
Social Clothing:
Not really needed -- also takes up more inventory space.
Party Areas:
Rather than make separate cities, I think it would be better just to have events held in the cities already created -- Lion's Arch, for example, is a big major city, and there is lots of open space where the Dev's could temporarily (for a day, for a week, whatever) code in a bazaar/festival/fair/whatever. Anyway, I think Gaile Gray or one of the other devs have mentioned somewhere, something along the lines of in-game events. I'm sure these will happen - the game has only been released for about a month, and they still have lots of things planned.
Further Weapon Customization:
Everyone would focus their time on having "the best weapon in the game", and this game isn't supposed to have that. There are a lot of customizable options as it is: runes and modifiers, as well as the random mods on rare weapons that drop.

Suggestions are simply suggestions, folks.
Telling a person that they should LEAVE GW or this forum because you don't like what their opinions and suggestions is STUNNINGLY immature and ignorant.
You might want to ask yourself why you are so irritated and threatened by people whose ideas you don't agree with.

Nokomis>> i'm irritated becuase these people come in here and don't bother to look even at the first page before they post let alone use the search. I mean when i first say this thread up there was 6 other threads based on transportaion on the first page of the forums.
then add in it seems like half the suggestions based around somehting from another game are just for the sake of adding. I mean seriously what possible reason is there for mounts in GW? we already have map warping. only reason i could see is they want to run past everything in the map and you can already do that. well i take it back i can see one other reason based in this post and its cuase they want to make chocobo knights in GW.
I have only seen one or two good ideas based on something from another game. and those were actually based on the idea from teh other game adapted to GW not jsut trying to port it straight.
Suggestions are not simply suggestions. there are suggestions to be constructive and then there is suggestions just to add/remove something for the sake of adding/removing. no improvement they just want change so they can say they suggested it.
